Meet Reverend Tom Porter and his Family
Upon graduating from Wittenberg University and Yale Divinity School, Reverend Porter served communities in Ohio and Wisconsin before joining CCOE in February 2014. In the interim, he served as a pastoral counselor and psychotherapist for 15 years both in private practice and in public mental heath. Those years of life enriching experiences have made him an extraordinary source of information for therapy and for healing.
"Helping others to connect with God in order to receive God's healing love and then letting the light of that love shine through us to heal others is, for me, the bottom line of what being a minister, a Christian, and a church, is all about. And with God at our center, we miraculously transcend ourselves, and we become more than we ever thought we could be, and infinitely more than the sum of our parts. We are here to widen the circle of God's compassion. We are here to love as we have been loved, for if we fail in love, we fail in all things else.
"I hope to meet you soon."
With the Greatest of Hope,
Rev. Tom Porter
Tom's wife, Anne, is continuing her nursing career as well as participating in church activities including the chancel choir. Their younger child, Kealy, is attending the University of Minnesota majoring in Conservation Biology/Zoology with a special interest in Animal Rights. Older brother Julian is a 2012 graduate of the University of Wisconsin and is currently considering medical school. He, also, is involved with Animal Rescue in the Madison area.
The Music Ministry at Congregational Church of Excelsior offers a wide variety of music for worship. This variety includes an excellent adult choir, a bell choir, children's music thru Christian Education, and wonderful mix of voice and instrumental musicians from within the congregation. At various times of the year, outside musical groups contribute to the musical menu.
Services provide traditional sacred music with a blend of beautiful contemporary throughout the year. The CCOE is very blessed with a wonderfully talented and energetic Director of Music, Lydia Holsten. Her contributions to our church music program continue to be immeasurable. Her presence is always a dramatic experience be it spiritually uplifting, joyful exuberance, or simply beautiful music. Do come and experience all the joy of sharing God's gifts with us. You'll be glad you did.
