Christmas Season at CCoE

IMG 1899The Christmas season at the Congregational Church of Excelsior in 2017 is exciting, as always. On Sunday, December 17, the Chancel Choir will be joined by our youth to present Candles & Carols: A Service of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love, a cantata by Mark Hayes. You'll hear Christmas readings from our kids, interspersed with familiar yet unique sounds of the season, some of which the congregants will join in on, all of this in our beautifully decorated sanctuary. Lydia Holsten, director of music, and Janet Holler, interim director of Christian education, have put together the wonderful program. Join us for the service at 10 a.m.

Then on Christmas Eve, we'll have our morning worship service at 10 a.m., plus a candlelight service at 4 p.m. Large candles add to the ambience of the sanctuary throughout the service, and we end by awaiting the arrival of the Christ child in only candlelight.

Beyond the church services, we are giving to the community this season through a mitten tree, laden with warm winter items that will go to Sharing and Caring Hands, a gift card drive for at-risk teens who receive spiritual and emotional support through our local Tree House, and donations of canned vegetables and fruits for ICA, our local food shelf.

Please join us in this season of giving and love.

Harvest Dinner a Success

FallHarvest1

Our annual fall harvest dinner was held Saturday, November 11, at 5 pm. Appetizers and cider accompanied bidding at our silent auction and shopping at our newly added store. When bidding closed, dinner, cooked by Chef Ross Rogney and his helpers, was served. This event, as always, was a fun-filled event and added to our church coffers.

Chamber Music

Arietta

The Congregational Church of Excelsior hosted a free afternoon concert by the Arietta Ensemble on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Featured were former and present members of the Minnesota Orchestra: Marilyn Zupnick (2nd from right in photo) and Mark Seerup (2nd from left) on oboe, Mary Jo Gothmann (left) on harpsichord, and J. Christopher Marshall (right) on bassoon. They performed a lovely selection of music by Mozart, Handel, and more. These marvelously talented musicians have graced us with their presence several times before, and we are grateful for the lovely, relaxing afternoon they provided.Save

Good Stuff Sale

GoodStuff2016Jeannie2

Our 2017 Good Stuff Sale was held Saturday, September 16, during Excelsior's Apple Day celebration. Church members contributed  antiques, collectibles, vintage and like-new clothing, fashion accessories, jewelry, art and crafts, small furniture and home accents.

The annual fall Excelsior celebration always draws big crowds of people strolling the streets of our charming town, listening to music, buying goods from booths on Water Street, eating from the food trucks, and coming up to the church to shop!

lake2Our 2017 boat cruise fundraiser, always a big hit with the lucky people on board, was held September 17. Captain Hank (Graef) gave his usual informative and humorous narration. Music was provided by Lydia Holsten on keyboard, and snacks were brought by all the sailors. The SeaNote yacht provided an afternoon of fun and continued a lovely annual tradition.
